Silence of the Heart -DVD- **
Boatniks -DVD- ****
Superdad -DVD- **
Silence of the Heart rightly deserves only 1 star... but two scenes take place in Chuck E Cheese circa 1984 and a very young Urkel makes an appearance so I bumped it up to two stars. This was a made for TV flick about teen suicide. Chad Lowe plays the kid who ends it all, Howard Hessman is the absent father and Charlie Sheen is the guy with cool hair. Found this one at the dollar store.
Boatniks is another in the Disney live action library that I have always wanted to check out. Released in 1970 this flick features Norman Fell, Phil Silvers and another guy with a funny voice as bumbling jewel thieves who hide the money in hollowed out salami. I loved this one from beginning to end. Then I read the review on UltimateDisney.com (a site I usually agree with) and they said something like "possibly the worst Disney film ever." Maybe this batch of dollar store films and kung fu capers is lowering my standards.
"Superdad: Superbad" is how Leonard Maltin apparently reviewed Superdad when it came out in the early 1970s. I wonder if 35 years later he tried to review Superbad by writing "Superbad: Superdad." It would make no sense, but Leonard would laugh and laugh.
Anyway, the film was not super bad, in fact... it was almost super good. The cast (Kurt Russell, Bruno Kirby, Dick Van Dyke, etc) were funny- with one exception: Bob Crane. Crane was awful. I really wanted to see it for his performance and wow, what a let down. Crane isn't funny at all and plays his curmudgeon character as if he was in a cop drama - not a silly film about a father who doesn't want his kid to hang out at the beach.
Also, thumbs down to Disney for making a DVD cover featuring Kurt's character in a tux with his bride (in gown) next to a disapproving Crane (also in tux.) Not bad artwork... except it spoils the end of the film. A "will they or won't they stay together" romance comedy falls a little flat when you KNOW it ends with a wedding. Booo!
Still, I will probably watch this one again. It has some real good LOL moments.

I have been watching an amazing amount of films since I started this. I am pretty excited about this blog, and I have had lots of free time this month. That should change in September and October when I will have lots of other commitments and a vacation and other things to occupy my free time.
Still, I should finish ahead of schedule. But, I plan to keep going until 100 days are up. Maybe I will see 200!
Next week I am making it a goal to see 2 silent films and 1 film released in 2007.
