Ninja Phantom Heroes -DVD- **
The Snake, The Tiger, The Crane -DVD- ***
A few months ago I picked up a 50 Movie Pack of Martial Arts films. It was 50 chop-socky flicks for under $20... and I had never seen any of them before. I saw one the other day (Ninja Finishing School or something) and today I watched 2 more.
First was Ninja Phantom Heroes... or as this DVD called it "Ninja Empire." I liked this one. It had some wild action and some ninjas that did odd dances that made them disappear... and re-appear a few feet away. They used this power a lot, but never in any way that benefited them, their opponent or the viewer.
The film did have a terribly muddled plot and was so confusing I wished I had a map.
The Snake, The Tiger, The Crane was not as confusing. The king had screwed up and decided to kill himself before he was killed. And he cuts his daughters arm off. So she goes out to avenge him by killing the people that would have killed him had he not killed himself. If it wasn't for the bizarre subplot where she pretends to be crazy so she can impress a guy into marrying her (which in turn make his mom so happy she hangs herself) I may have given this 4 stars.
On a side note, I bought a couple new DVDs and recorded a few things off cable that may make it on the list of 100 movies. I now have the Clint Eastwood/Orangutan films, Mr. Bean's second movie, a 1970s Disney film co-starring Norman Fell and a 1940s comedy featuring a talking tuba.

As the guy who saw these films with you, I gotta agree with both reviews. But I'd like to add that the best character of both movies was the evil king (from "The Snake, The Tiger, The Crane") that would have killed the first king, had not said first king killed himself first. He was bad ass. I wish there was more of him. I was kind of rooting for him at the end.
Yes yes.
For those who haven't seen Snake, Tiger... etc. (that would be everyone else) there was an awesome scene where the evil king was in a wagon and an attacking army of ninjas was stabbing through the sides. The evil king then snapped each of thier swords in half and stabbed them with thier own blade. Baaadddddaaaasss indeed.
BTW you can order the set here...
